- REEN Act
- Law to Reduce the Environmental Footprint of Digital Technology (2021). Imposes digital sobriety obligations: eco-design, awareness, responsible digital strategy.
- PUE
- Power Usage Effectiveness — data centre energy efficiency indicator. A PUE of 1.0 means all energy powers the servers. The global average is 1.58.
- Responsible digital
- Approach to reducing the environmental and social footprint of digital technology: eco-design, extending equipment lifespan, usage sobriety, accessibility.
- B Corp
- International certification evaluating corporate social and environmental impact across 5 areas (BIA). Minimum score of 80/200 required. Renewal every 3 years.
- ESG due diligence
- Process of evaluating environmental, social and governance risks during a fundraising round or acquisition. Investors increasingly integrate these criteria.
- GreenIT
- Set of practices to reduce the environmental impact of information technology: infrastructure optimisation, virtualisation, efficient cloud, software eco-design.
- Digital LCA
- Life Cycle Assessment applied to digital services. Evaluates the environmental footprint from equipment manufacturing to end-of-life, including usage.
- Scope 2
- Indirect emissions from purchased energy (electricity, heat, steam). For tech companies, scope 2 includes electricity consumption of offices and operated data centres.
