What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small file placed on your device (computer, tablet, phone) when you visit. Some information is stored differently, for example in your browser's local storage: we treat it the same way here.
What the banner controls, and what it does not
The banner shown on your first visit controls whether the "Audience measurement" and "Advertising campaign measurement" cookies listed below are placed; you can accept or refuse each separately ("Customise"). As long as you have not answered, or if you decline, they are not placed; if they already were, they are deleted when you decline.
The banner does not control the site's technical protection against abuse (limiting the number of forms submitted from the same address). This protection relies on an IP address turned into a fingerprint, processed for service security on the basis of our legitimate interest, with no consent required — as with any anti-fraud measure.
Nor does it control the anonymous audience measurement described below, which places no cookie and does not need your consent; you can refuse it at any time with the "Do not count me" link.

Anonymous audience measurement, without cookies (exempt from consent)
To know how the site is used, we count page views anonymously, without placing or reading any cookie or identifier on your device. Only totals per day, per page, per referrer (the domain of the site you came from, or the campaign named in the link) and per device type are recorded. Your IP address is neither kept nor passed on to anyone: together with your browser, it is only used to compute a short-lived digest that links the pages of one visit, renewed and erased every day. These statistics are used solely by Stock CO2 to measure its site's audience, are never combined with any other data and are kept for 25 months at most. This measurement falls within the consent exemption of Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act as specified by the CNIL (deliberation 2020-091 of 17 September 2020).
You can object at any time: Do not count me. Your refusal is remembered for 13 months in the sco2_audience_refus cookie; no page is counted from this browser any more.

We do not fingerprint your device (combining screen resolution, installed fonts and graphics rendering to recognise you without a cookie): this technique is not used on this site.
Advertising campaign measurement (subject to your consent)
If you accept it ("Advertising campaign measurement" option of the banner, ticked by "Accept all"), we measure whether a Google Ads ad brought you here and whether your visit led to a request. No targeting, retargeting (remarketing) or ad-personalisation cookie is used: this consent only serves to measure our own ads. If you refuse, these items are not placed, and any already present are deleted.
